It’s that book-ey time of year – Birmingham Literature Festival starts October 6th!!
Full of such varied (in subject) and consistent (in quality) events – there is sure to be something for everyone… if they haven’t sold out already!

Welcome to Birmingham Literature Festival 2016, 6 – 16 October
Over 80 writers, performers, historians, illustrators and orators host nearly 50 interviews, performances, debates and workshops in central Birmingham over 11 days this October.
This year’s literary treats cover an extraordinary range of subjects – from the creativity of concrete to what makes Birmingham a great speech-making city. You’ll find us in the library, at the Cathedral, in a bar or on a boat.
We look at working class writing, writing and psychotherapy and at how accent and dialect influence poetry.
Joining us are BBC Radio Four, the Frankfurt LiteraTurm Festival and writers from over half a dozen European nations, including Hans Rosenfeldt writer of hit Nordic noir television series The Bridge and Elif Shafak, the most widely read woman writer in Turkey and “one of the most distinctive voices in contemporary Turkish and world literature”.
Our first Sunday is a Teen Takeover – produced by four young people – and we are also pleased to welcome Chris Riddell, the Waterstones Children’s Laureate on Saturday 15th October.
The Festival launches with the National Poetry Day Gala featuring the magnificent Jean ‘Binta’ Breeze and the announcement of the new Birmingham Poet Laureate and Young Poet Laureate, kept under wraps until then.
