I am delighted to be able to offer you this CD by Jonathan Day, on the Fair Acre Press website – A gentle intelligent poetic folk album that grows on you with each listening…
I only recently met Jonathan Day when he asked Fair Acre Press to help publish his book Lyric.
I was then lucky enough to introduce his Lyric event at Wenlock Poetry Festival 2016: when an audience of poetry lovers was blown away by both Jonathan’s songs, with his accompanying films; and by the award-winning folk singer Jack Harris.
All money (minus p & p ) will go directly to Jonathan – perhaps to buy him a coffee and a muffin, when he is next on the road…
aswell as these reviews –
“Breathtakingly beautiful” Folk Radio UK, featured album
“Very lovely: putting the poetry back into song lyrics” BBC
“Expansive, intelligent and eloquent” South China Morning Post
“Ton Tussa Solas – one of the most well-observed love songs I’ve ever heard” Folk Radio UK
“Day’s guitar playing evokes John Martyn – a perfect foil for the words. Perfectly matched phrases tumble out to form a seamless mosaic and illuminate the deepest musings of the soul” R2 magazine
“A poetic lyricism – evocative, intense and contemplative” Shire Folk magazine album of the day
“Atmospheric, restful, reflective, poetic, responsive – no listener can fail to respond. Beautifully compelling” Fatea magazine
“A windswept voice not a million miles from Roy Harper – Jonathan Day captivates as he sings” Northern Sky magazine
“Jonathan’s music doesn’t sound like anybody else around now, that’s what attracts me to it.
Somebody doing something genuinely different is just great” Moorlands Radio
The songs on the album are:
Cafe in the Valley of the fine Church
Sea full of birds
A Book of Hours
Ton tussa Solar
Sita’s Last Dance
An Onnagata kami infests my forest
The Darkling Sky
You can hear Sea full of birds and A Book of Hours on soundcloud below, along with several of his other songs.
Please be aware that the soundcloud versions do vary from the versions on this CD – which was recorded (with wonderful clarity and quality) on the road; then mixed at The Magic Garden.
