support me on Patreon?

I have created a PATREON page for The Word Bin podcast and the other podcasts I am keen to start but can’t afford to give the time to.

It is a special kind of crowdfunding page which allows people who are keen to support artists the opportunity to help them continue to create, thanks to their monthly donation

You can get out of it at any time! and there are several different amounts of money you can donate, with the same “rewards” whatever you pledge.

I also have plans to apply for  further ACE funding for large projects (having successfully completed 5 ACE funded projects since 2014) and… wonderfully… money pledged on Patreon acts as “other income” when applying to Arts Council England – plus it  demonstrates a strong audience interest; so I am hopeful this Patreon page may be useful in a larger way too. If the page becomes a success the money will also fund future publishing plans.

If you don’t know my and Fair Acre Press’ work well here is a little synopsis:

Since 2011 I have run Fair Acre Press singlehandedly and without a regular income from it.

I have published a full colour photography book which was awarded 5 stars from the largest photography magazine in the UK (Amateur Photographer) and a working-class novel that was shortlisted for the Arnold Bennett prize.

I have published a nature-writing book which was shortlisted for both the BBC Countryfile magazine award for Country book of the year, and Richard Jeffries Award as well as being on the guardian’s best nature books of the year list.

I have published a children’s poetry collection and several grown up poetry collections. Two have won the International Rubery Award for Poetry and one was the recipient of the Ted Hughes Award for new works in poetry. I have also published poetry pamphlets – often being the first publication of the poet. Poets who have endorsed these books and pamphlets include John Burnside, Helen Mort, Carol Ann Duffy, Katrina Porteous, David Morley, Phillip Gross, Michael Rosen, Simon Armitage, Gillian Clarke, Robert Minhinnick, Fiona Sampson, Katherine Towers, Jonathan Edwards and many more.

I have published a book of cartoons, endorsed by the great Hunt Emerson… and Stephen Fry has endorsed one of the books!

The Arts Council funded projects have included performing alongside a Professor of Astrophysics, going on an Urban bird walk with Springwatch/ Radio 4 presenter Brett Westwood and making podcasts of both famous and emerging poets. Anthologies always include big names and those who have never been published before.

PLEASE do not donate money unless you have it spare. All the above will continue without donations. I am just exploring this as a possibility and know there are people keen to support the creative sector particularly at this time.

Please do share this with anyone who you think might be interested!
