Paul and I went to Tanya Raabe-Webber’s studio on 21st February – the first of 2 one-to-two mentoring sessions with her.
Tanya talked about the extraordinary projects she has run – including a recent one where she painted the amazing percussionist Dame Evelyn Glennie – in front of a live audience!! And got the audience to participate!!!!
She described how Evelyn Glennie held her hand as she painted to feel the vibrations and percussion a painter makes
She described exactly how she runs these public painting days and we saw her large canvases which we both adored
We also heard about other huge scale projects she has run
We talked about how Paul has learned some sign language over the weekend and our ideas of how we might plan our workshops in May particularly at Derwen College. Tanya has years of experience and it was so useful to hear her comments, but also for her to say – try it all – see what works for us – be ready to be adaptable – and – drop something that isn’t working.
It was absolutely amazing to be in such an experienced professional and talented artist’s studio and to be treated as colleagues
We had all our questions discussed, or answered – and more we hadn’t thought of! Some of it was not for sharing in a blog. All of it was useful.
Thank you thank you DASH for arranging this mentoring but most of all to Tanya for such an amazingly inspirational session.
